About Me

Sarah Thomas is an architectural historian, material culture scholar, and editor.

Sarah Thomas, a native of Front Royal, Virginia, serves as the Associate Director of the Lemon Project. She is also the editor of The Chronicle of the Early American Industries Association. She is an early American historian of inclusive histories through the lenses of material culture and architectural history. She earned her doctorate in history from William & Mary and holds a master’s in architectural history from the University of Virginia. She believes that historians can use buildings and objects, whether extant or found in documents, to illuminate the lives and experiences of enslaved African Americans who built and maintained institutions, such as William & Mary.
